2006: The Movies

On October 4, 2005, for some unknown reason, I started noting down every movie I watched with the date and a rating from 1 to 10 in my Moleskine. I’ve become rather obsessive about it, but I have noticed that either I only watch good to excellent movies, or my rating scale has a very fucked up bell curve. I am very keen to give 8s and 9s, but hesitant to give anything less than a 6. I’m far too generous, perhaps. Anyway, these are my movies of 2006.

Conclusions I Can Draw From This Data

what’s up with me being the first to comment twice in a row?

just wanted to say the following statements also apply to me: – I am a sucker for romantic comedies, and really any movie that makes me cry. – I have questionable taste.

Have you seen The Notebook? Best movie ever. I didn’t just cry, I bawled like a baby!

Also, The Holiday. I just saw that one a couple of weeks ago – romantic comedy AND made me cry. Awesome :D

Ah, so it’s all your fault that Hollywood keeps making these terrible movies! Stop encouraging them! Just kidding. If I was to rate movies, l would probably skew the other way, with a whole bunch of 2s and 3s and only the rare 8. I’m a curmudgeon.

Waking Ned Devine, however, was great, glad to see that there, I’d totally forgotten about it.

The thing is, most awful movies don’t get a cinema release in New Zealand. The truly awful ones have crashed and burned before coming here.

DVDs have a broader range, but your local video shop isn’t going to give shelf space to shit films that didn’t do no good overseas.

But rubbish films are still out there. You just have to search a bit harder.

Here is a list of mainstream awful films that ought to be watched, says Dave White.
